THE NEW TODAY - Week ending Feb 06th, 2010
Business Leader in the Senate, Sen. George Prime says that there is no mutiny within the ranks of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as alluded to by the main Opposition New National Party (NNP). There has been allegations of infighting of late within the ranks of the Congress administration which took office eighteen months ago. The NNP of former Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell has consistently claimed that it had inside information of a plan to demote or remove Prime Minister Tillman Thomas from office by members of his own Cabinet.
However, Sen. Prime in seeking to set the record clear, said that “we have no mutiny in our camp because our course is charted by one man.” Sen. Prime also commented on claims in some quarters that PM Thomas is seen as a weak person and is not doing anything in office. “...What this PM does by his own way is to allow us at times to steer the ship. All of us does get a steer but the course that he is chart(ing) is the course that all of us going in. “We ain’t have no PM who steering, who charting and throwing people overboard at the same time – that’s mutiny – there’s no mutiny in the camp….we have no mutiny in our camp because our course is charted by one man.
“This course that we charted as outlined by the budget is the course we staying on and one that we’re clear that we doing the right thing is welcomed by all the people except the opposition.” Sen. Prime also rebuked former Prime Minister Mitchell who in response to the 2010 budget as presented by Finance Minister, Nazim Burke charged that the minister was not telling a true story with the figures as presented.
According to Sen. Prime, it was the Opposition Leader’s chance to tell the nation what the true story is but instead he ended up using his reply to only ridicule and call people all kinds of name including the present Education Minister, Sen. Franka Bernadine. He said that not one single word was issued by Dr. Mitchell as to an alternative to the budget and ways to tackle issues such as the cost of living as well as the introduction of VAT and the impact it will have on Grenada’s economy. Sen. Prime is confident that the 2010 package is not an empty budget like those presented during the past 13 years under the leadership of Dr Mitchell and his NNP regime.
Sen. Prime who has the portfolio of Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs believes that the budget of the Thomas government is one that offers “new hope and vision” for the future. He said that by all accounts the entire country seemingly welcomed the budget which gives something to every single citizen.
