Minister of Finance and Leader of Government Business in the Lower House, Nazim Burke, has come out in defense of his Prime Minister against another set of “disrespectful” remarks cast at him by former Grenadian leader and now holder of the post of Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Mitchell.

During a sitting of the house last week Tuesday, Dr. Mitchell in his latest barrage of verbal assault on Prime Minister, Tillman Thomas made several comments especially about his intellectual level. Mitchell’s comments came during debate on a Motion he presented to remove Speaker of the House, George McGuire from the Chair for his alleged “bias and hostility” towards the Opposition New National Party (NNP).

Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Mitchell. The former Prime Minister in trying to castigate his predecessor for his contribution to the motion, said it is clear him that PM Thomas does not understand the arrangement of government up to this time of taking over the reigns of power. “...It shows the level of IQ that’s there”, said Dr. Mitchell who holds a doctorate from an american university. Over the years, the current Leader of the Opposition has often taken pot shots at the intellect at PM Thomas who is an attorney-at-law by profession.

However, Finance Minister Burke got up from his seat to come to the defense of his political leader in what appears to be a pattern being set by Dr. Mitchell to make disparaging remarks against the Prime Minister. He described the utterings of the NNP leader as deeply offensive and sought to remind the House that the debate was about the conduct of Dr. Mitchell himself and whether he acted properly on the occasion when the Speaker had to seek his removal from Parliament.

Dr. Mitchell brought the motion in retaliation to the decision taken by Speaker George Mc Guire to suspend him from the rest of the Sitting of the House on July 14 for displaying “poor” leadership. The Finance Minister took strong objection to Dr. Mitchell’s statement on the IQ of PM Thomas. He said: “Here is the Opposition leader making reference to the PM’s IQ... at another meeting he accused the PM of being retarded. I don’’t want to get personal or attack anyone but it is not for Mitchell to come to the House and attack the intelligence portion of the PM.

“It is deeply offensive and he (has) to be restrained with that kind of conduct. That is not the kind of language to be used in parliament. And every time it is heard I will object and challenge it, it is wrong, it is inconsistent with parliamentary behaviour”, he said. Dr. Mitchell attempted to justify his statement saying that his remarks regarding IQ intelligence was to show that the Prime Minister’s statement lacks logic. He said that he was not implying that Prime Minister Thomas has a very low IQ.

Reading the LUDA CRIS stuff posted on DOc is a shame of how the media behave in Grenada. The people
behave in like manner and the world is reading on too. Please MR. Moderator a lot of us call
ourselves educated but we cant read and digest properly as sensible individuals. Doc Mitchell has
the right as a parlimentarian to make a contribtion in the house of representative if he see it so
fitting. The speak is a bias man and not only in parliment but in his job at SGU ask students about
the man. These are tthe kind of boo rats we have serving in high offices? The bible clearly stated
that there will come a time when the wickedness in high place will occur but the might hands of God
will smite them down. We are seeing it in the reign of the NDC administration and the actions of
the elected ministers. There isnt one of them who could make a difference. They are arrogrant,
uneducated about the state affairs and the crises facing Grenadians. I am not living in Grenada for
over eight years now I from reading this newspaper I can clearly see and understand that there is a
high level of illiteracy amongst young people in grenada and it growing. There isnt the
interlectual capacity to help re-educate or lead others. The politicians like Burke, Glenis
Roberts, Carl Hood, Church, INgrid Rush and Jackson have confirm to this bracket of ill sensible
people. NO forgetting Alene Walker and Simmons, Arle Gill too. There needs to be proper
counselling for these people. They speak mouth open word jump out. I am not sure if their advisors
are working effectively. Moreover they have miss mamnged the economy in such hard times. There is
enough or has never been job creation or openings since NNP was swept out of office but those
"who love powers" church hill.

When will wee see progress happening in grenada again.
Global Action  - ZERO TOLERANCE FOR POOR LEADERSHIP   |173.183.197.xxx |2009-10-11 07:36:44
The Opposition Leader's behaviour is not normal for any adult, let alone a Member of Parliament of
25 years who claims to hold a doctorate.

Grendians must remember that this individual campaigned
in 3 elections and was voted in as a Member of the House of Representatives of Grenada when he was
in actual fact a citizen of the USA. That's against the Grenada election laws. Grenada's Pledge of
Allegieance states in part, "I pledge that I shall defend and uphold the Honour, Dignity and
Laws and institutions of my country." The law says a person cannot even campaign in an election
, let alone be elected as a Representative of the people if that person has pledged allegiance to
another country other than a Commonwealth country. This is MISREPRESENTATION to the people of
Grenada not representation of the people. This is a fraudulent act.

Parliamentary rules prohibit
any member speaking in a manner that is offensive and/or insulting. Yhe Opposition Leader's remark
was both.

The Deputy Speaker, the Hon. Roland Bhola had a duty to discipline the Opposition
leader for his remarks. The Deputy Speaker neglected his duty to order the Opposition Leader to
withdraw his remark, and order this Member to discontinue his speech.

The Standing Order rules of
the House are designed for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the
Government's business. Insulting, offensive, personal and hence irrelevant remarks have no place in
conducting the Nation's business.

If the Leader of the Opposition cannot follow the rules and
laws of Parliament then he needs to be removed from the House of Representatives. 25 years of
misrepresentation is far too long for any group of people to endure this type of fraudulent,
self-serving manipulation and disrepect for the People of Grenada.

Please Doc you are sounding like a broken record,I truly believe that your days are numbered.
Grenadians are becoming weary of you.your antiques are annoying and you are becoming nuisance. We

I think Dr. Mitchell is loosing his mind; he seems so desperate to trample the name of the duely
elected Prime Minister.
One would expect better for Dr. Mitchell. I suggest that the dear old Doc
take a long vacation and get his act together. When you so insult the leader of a country in such a
manner, it only means that you are also insulting the people of Grenada.
Grenadian people should
protest against such ignorance.

Keith Mitchell should not question anyone's intellect especially a barrister at law. Keith himself
doesn't display intelligence with the stupidity he usually displays. Typical examples are calling
elected Officials gorilla or retarded. He sounds like an immature child. He acts like an old fool by
the wayside throwing words. That's not intelligence. Where is Keith's intelligence when all those
foreign crooks ride him like a jackass and inherit big chunks of Grenada? Where is his intelligence
when he give so called bankers licensce to steal poor Grenadians money? He may have a Doctorate but
he surely acts like a real Dumb-Dumb. Keith need to stop underestimating Grenadians. He can not
think for the people. Grenadians kicked him out because they are intelligent. They realized he was
incompetent. Keith must understand that Grenada is not his plantation. He must also understand that
he is not the smartest. He thinks too much of himself. Keith please humble yourself. After all, you
were a terrible leader just face up to it. Stop crying over spilt milk.
