Three deaths by unlawful means within a two-week period in Grenada are just too much. Two of the killings have been classified as murder while the one involving five police officers have been deemed to be manslaughter by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Parliament has approved the Grenada Cadet Corps Bill, 2011 amidst concerns raised by members of the Opposition New National Party (NNP).Opposition Leader and former Prime Minister, Dr Keith Mitchell said he has tremendous difficulties with the Bill especially with the military style training provided to children as young as 11 years old.

The main opposition New National Party (NNP) is said to be “eyeing” a former government minister as its candidate to try and unseat Prime Minister Tillman Thomas for his rural St. Patrick East seat in the next general elections. Informed sources told THE NEW TODAY newspaper that Kenny Lalsingh who holds the post of Deputy Chairman of the party has apparently been given the green light to lead the party work in the area.

Commissioner of Police, Willan Thompson has sought to justify the use of the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) in removing Brewery workers who were engaged in blocking the entrance of the Grenada Breweries Limited (GBL) on the Maurice Bishop Highway two weeks ago.

The Seamen and Waterfront Workers Union (SWWU) has decided to get involved in the current impasse between the Technical & Allied Workers union (TAWU) and the Grenada Breweries Limited (GBL). According to well-placed sources, SWWU President, Lyle Samuel has written to the management of the local brewing company urging it to immediately return to the bargaining table with TAWU in an effort to settle the dispute and for the locked-out workers to return to the job.

The New Year has started disastrously in Grenada with the island being hit by two murders within five days.  The first victim was 60-year old Marjorie Laurian Redhead, proprietor of Lourina Tiles & Lights who allegedly lost her life last week Tuesday at the hands of one of her employees, Kevin Morris of Grand Mal (Calabash Alley), St. George’s.
