An early morning sting operation last Saturday by various arms of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has led to the capture of fugitive from justice, Seon Grant of River Sallee, St. Patrick’s.
The 24-year old man who was placed on the police’s most wanted list was captured just about 5:30 a.m. in Radix in the Mt. Parnassus area. The police had been on the hunt for the wanted man for questioning in connection with the offense of robbery with violence that occurred on June 29. The River Sallee resident was the last of two men to be captured by the police for robbing an elderly man.
Saturday’s operation was conducted by members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Special Services Unit, Rapid Response Unit (RRU), and the Drug Squad. A confidential source told THE NEW TODAY Newspaper that Grant was found hiding in some bushes near to the house in Mt. Parnassus.
The source who did not wish to be identified said the wanted man was apparently alerted about the police presence and tried to elude them by hiding in some nearby bushes. The fugitive reportedly told the police that he only sought refuge at the house two days before his capture. The house was occupied by 30-year old Coley John and his girlfriend, 19-year old Nickeisha Lawrence. Grant’s girlfriend, 20-year old Mindy Francis was also found in the house.
The source said the police understood that the wanted man came to the house the day before his capture.
A subsequent search of the area resulted in the police discovering some marijuana seedlings. All four persons have been charged with the offenses of possession of a controlled drug, and cultivation of a controlled drug. In addition Francis, a hairdresser from River Sallee, St. Patrick’s has been charged for the offense of harboring a criminal.
The source said former Head of RRU, Inspector Raymond “Beast” Matthew played a leading role in Grant’s capture since he was the one who was able to gather intelligence on the River Sallee man’s location which led to the sting operation. Police had issued a bulletin on July 18 seeking the assistance of the general public in locating the wanted man who was described as medium built and unemployed.
