The 2011- 2012 Spice Basket Theatre Season kicks off with BELINDA, a lively Romantic West Indian Folk Musical Comedy, written and directed by Grenadian playwright, Francis Urias Peters.

BELINDER is a celebration of our Grenadian/Caribbean folk music and rhythms and captures the essence of our colorful island life through the bacchanal, songs and movement.

The play tells the story of “Belinder” (played by Sonika McKie), a young woman whose life has taken a lonely and reclusive path all because she has been “jilted” by her first love, “Abraham” (played by Richard Britton), who migrated to the USA.

The emotions, moods and dramatic actions are all colored by the music, songs and rhythms which are interwoven into the plot to punctuate the value of our sweet, folk music.

The cast is made up of a group of young Grenadian actors and actresses (the future of Grenada’s theatre movement); many of them are making their stage debut and what better place to do so than the Spice Basket Theatre.

They are led by one of Grenada’s leading theatre personalities, Agatha Alexis, who plays the role of “Miss B”, the saucy, Village Spice Spice Vendor.

In fact MISS B is also the story teller who fills in the audience with relevant information on the goings on in the village.

This is a wonderful family event that every Grenadian family must see. The production opens at the Spice basket Theatre on Saturday October 15 with a Children’s/family matinee at 1.00 p.m. and later on at 8:00 PM on the same Saturday.

The final performance is on Sunday October 16 at 6:00 p.m.
