Thousands found on suspect

Quick action by Officers attached to the Gouyave Police Station has resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of cash allegedly stolen from a business place at Gouyave, St. John’s.

 Less than two hours after the report was made to the Police on September 20, a 27 year old Mason of Gouyave Estate, Kellon Welsh was arrested and charged in connection with housebreaking and stealing from Licks & Bytes Restaurant and Bar, Lower Depradine Street, Gouyave.

 THE NEW TODAY understands that Welch was apprehended while aboard a mini-bus en route to St. George’s.

 He was reportedly searched and the sum of fifteen thousand, ninety-nine dollars and twenty-five cents were found on him.

 Licks & Bytes was reported broken into during the night on Monday 19th September and cash amounting to fifteen thousand five hundred and fourteen dollars and twenty-five cents were stolen. ($15,514.25 ECC)

 Welch who appeared before the Sauteurs Magistrates’ Court on Thursday has been remanded to the Richmond Hill prison to reappear in court on September 26 at the Gouyave Magistrate’s Court.

 He has also been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled drug and two other charges relating to housebreaking and stealing in connection with offenses committed at the St. John’s Roman Catholic School in Gouyave.
