Police believe they have managed to make a dent on one of the major suppliers of illegal drugs leaving the island for a foreign destination. Woburn resident, Shankiel ‘Riley’ Myland was arrested last week Friday by members of the Drug Squad and is now facing a charge of possession of illegal drugs and trafficking.

The Drug Squad was able to nab Myland one day after they laid similar charges on British National Faye Anne Lobo who was caught last week Thursday with one kilo of cocaine in her luggage as she prepared to depart the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) on Virgin Atlantic flight 052 for London.

The lawmen will try to convince the court that Myland supplied Lobo with the drugs that have a street value of $118,000.00. The prosecution has already given the court indication that the British woman will be used as one of their witnesses against Myland who has had five previous drug convictions.

Lobo, 45, has already pleaded guilty to possession of illegal drugs. She is still to be sentenced by the local court. The two drug accused who are jointly charged were brought to court on Tuesday and placed on bail by Magistrate Karen Noel at the St. George’s Number Two Magistrate’s Court.

However, Police Prosecutor, PC 147 Kerry Swan who objected to bail for Myland gave a litany of previous convictions of the Woburn resident on drug-related offences. Swan informed the court that the accused had five previous convictions of a similar nature dating back to 1997 and made reference to the most recent convictions in 2004 and 2009.

In 2004, Myland was fined $20,000.00, and in 2009 he was fined $25,000.00 for possession of cocaine. Defense Counsel, Ruggles Ferguson who mitigated on behalf of his client indicated that Myland is an industrious family man of seven children who is gainfully employed.

Myland is known to be the owner of several trucks, and is said to be employed with E.S Donald & Associates, and also engages in the rental of construction tools, and operates at bar at Woburn jetty. Lobo was granted bail in the sum of $75,000.00 with two sureties by Magistrate Noel.

However, Myland’s bail was set in the sum of $200,000.00 with two sureties as well. Both drug accused persons are required to surrender all travel documents, and ordered to report to the Central Police Station on the Carenage every day between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. They will return to court on September 22.

Lobo, who is married to a Grenadian, has been in the country on a two-week vacation when she was intercepted at MBIA with the illegal drugs. She is one of two British Nationals who were arrested with drugs last week while attempting to leave the country. The first arrest came last week Tuesday when Daniel Langaigne was caught at MBIA with one kilo of cocaine concealed in three wall plaques during check-in with British Airways flight 2156 bound for London, England.

Langaigne appeared at the St. George’s Number One Magistrate’s Court on Monday before Magistrate Henry Paryag and was granted bail in the sum of $25,000.00 with one surety. A Grenadian by decent, the 46 year-old Langaigne was ordered to surrender all his travel documents and report to Central Police Station Mondays and Fridays at 9:00 a.m.
