The victory of top Grenadian athlete, Kirani James as well as his two colleagues who represented Grenada at the just ended IAAF World Championships in South Korea continues to be a source of pride and inspiration for all Grenadians. The 18-year old resident of Gouyave, St John stormed to victory in the 400m at the World Athletics championships last week Tuesday to give Grenada its first international gold medal.
Although the other two athletes Rondell Barthlomew and Janelle Redhead failed to secure a medal they were equally congratulated for representing Grenada to the best of their ability. On D Spot Hardware Store on Monday recognised the contributions made by the athletes especially Kirani to the making of history in the Spice Isle by presenting their parents with gift vouchers.
Kirani’s mother, Pamela James received a $2000.00 voucher while Rondell’s mother, Charlyn Barthlomew got a $1000.00 voucher and Janelle’s father, Lyndon De Coteau also ended up with a $1000.00 voucher. These gift vouchers are valid at any On D Spot Hardware outlet in the country to receive any item/s of their choice.
In presenting the gift package, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Emmerson Theodore, recalled the nerve shattering moments he had to go through before Kirani crossed the finish line ahead of the defending champion, LaShawn Merritt to snatch gold for Grenada and leave his arch rival with the silver medal. “His (Kirani) last few seconds touched me greatly”, Theodore said.
The company recently constructed a storeroom facility in close proximity to its Gouyave office, stocking building supplies such as cement, plywood, electrical fittings and other products at the facility that is also equipped with a forklift for faster and efficient service.
Theodore said the expansion of the Gouyave outlet is the beginning of the company’s intention to take its ideas to a newer and higher level. He described the opening of the storeroom as achieving a critical piece of puzzle, but made it clear that nothing happens overnight.
“It’s a process”, he quipped. Theodore said that while the storeroom is small it is nonetheless effective and urged customers to be patient with them as they attempt to bring more products to the Gouyave storeroom to satisfy the needs of their customers.
Last week, On D Spot opened its second branch in the Town of St George close to the bus terminus in an effort to answer the plea of some customers who are concerned about the distance of the Woodlands outlet. On D Spot Hardware opened its doors in 1999 and to date the company can boast of having three outlets on the island and employing a staff of 50 persons.
