Former Calypso Monarch Biko Lewis is down to answer a charge of rape and unlawful carnal knowledge at the current sitting of the High Court.
Lewis fell in trouble with the law eight months after he won the calypso monarch title for the first time in 2008
The twice-time monarch from Chantimelle, St. Patrick’s is accused of engaging in the sexual act with a minor who at the time was 15 years old.
The incident is alleged to have happened on April 17, 2009 at Marli, St. Patrick’s.
Biko was arraigned on Tuesday at the start of the October Assizes and pleaded not guilty to both counts.
The Kaiso bard is currently on bail in the sum of $20,000.00 with one surety.
Biko is one of two prominent persons on the assizes list accused of sexual misconduct.
The other is schoolteacher Aaron Hercules who is facing a charge of indecent assault.
Hercules who resides at Fontenoy, St. George’s is accused of committing the sexual offense sometime between March 1 and 31, 2009.
During Tuesday’s sitting, presiding High Court Judge, Justice Lyle St. Paul was adamant to send Hercules to prison for misleading the court.
The accused told the court he is being represented by the Law Firm of Derick Sylvester and Associates.
However, a female attorney at the law firm denied before St. Paul that they had been retained to represent Hercules.
In response, an angry looking Justice St. Paul said that Hercules has always been claiming before the court that an attorney represents him and in the end this has not been true.
However, the accused man maintained that he had discussions with Sylvester just before the commencement of the assizes.
Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, Criss-Ann Greenidge asked for the matter to be adjourned to October 31 so as to allow Hercules sufficient time to retain a lawyer.
News of Hercules misconduct of engaging in sexual acts with students at the St. George’s Methodist School where he taught, first came to light by Education Minister, Senator Franka Bernardine.
A total of 28 of the 115 cases listed for hearing relate to sexual offenses.
