An altercation between two men over a love relationship with a young lady in Mt. Horne, St. Andrew’s has ended in the tragic death of one of the men who is the father of the woman’s child.

Dead is Delon Jeffrey, a 27-year old farmer from Mt. Horne, St. Andrew’s.

A source told The New Today Newspaper that the dead man was engaged in an intimate relationship with the mother of his child, 19-year old Jennie Julien who also resides at Mt. Horne.

However, according to the source who does not wish to be identified, the relationship reportedly ended earlier this year, and Julien started another love relationship with Sherwin Shane Buckmire who is accused of committing the crime.

Both the accused man and Jeffrey met at the home where young lady resides last Saturday.

Another source told this newspaper that the day before the killing, the deceased is alleged to have beaten Buckmire as part of a conflict over the young lady.

He said the following day, the murder suspect dealt with Jeffrey as part of a revenge for what had happened the day before.

He spoke of Buckmire fleeing the area, moving through Bylands and then Birchgrove before going to the police station to surrender.

Several young men from the area were seen giving chase after the quick moving Buckmire who managed to evade them.

The source who is acquainted with the murder suspect describes him as “a very determined person”.

“If you hit him, he will hit you back, no matter how long it will take. That is how he has always been since a little boy growing up. If it takes him 100 years to hit you back, he will do it. I know him”, he remarked.

This newspaper learnt that during the altercation, Jeffrey received a cut around the right side of his neck.

The injured man managed to get up from the ground and went into the kitchen where he collapsed.

The source said blood was visible at various locations, in and around the house including on a Land Rover that was parked in the yard, the verandah, the front of the kitchen door and walls, and the kitchen sink.

Last month Jeffrey was arrested and charged for the offence of causing harm to Julien, the mother of his child.

Buckmire who is from La Digue appeared before the Grenville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to answer to the charge of murder and was remanded to the Richmond Hill prison.

The Presiding Magistrate, Henry Paryag ordered that he reappear before the Court on October 31.

Jeffrey’s killing is the fourth murder to have taken place for the year in Grenada.

Meanwhile, a freak accident in Grenville, St. Andrew’s last Saturday has claimed the life of a 27-year old woman.

The New Today Newspaper learnt that Cleverine Sanderson from Mt. Horne, St. Andrew’s was in the process of cleaning the house when she received severe cuts on various parts of her body from wares that were stashed in a cabinet.

Sanderson received cuts around her head, upper right collarbone, two fingers on her left hand and around the upper part of her right arm.

She was pronounced dead at the Princess Alice Hospital in Mirabeau, St. Andrew’s.
