Police are investigating a possible case of suicide that took place in St. David's last Sunday.
The body of 60 year-old Lennox St. Bernard was found hanging behind the door inside his bedroom at Corinth Housing Scheme by a party of police officers attached to the St. David's Police Station.
According to an authoritative source, the lawmen observed St. Bernard's motionless body hanging with one end of a rope tied to the ceiling and the other around his neck.
The source said the retired man's feet were slightly touching the floor, his hands were alongside his body and his tongue outside of his mouth.
Our News Desk was told that a wooden stool was noticed about three feet away from where St. Bernard was hanging, and a handwritten note was also seen inside a notebook which was opened.
However, the source was not in a position to say what was written in the notebook.
St. Bernard who has been living alone for the past 14 years was pronounced dead by Dr. George Mitchell, before a funeral undertaker removed the body.
Meanwhile, police in the north of the island are investigating the circumstances that lead to a case of attempted suicide at River Salle, St. Patrick's.
The New Today Newspaper has learnt that Paul Nyack attempted to take his life after an intimate relationship he had with a young lady went sour.
A source told this newspaper that Nyack went into the yard where the young lady is residing and called her out.
After some persistence on his part, the young lady finally emerged from inside of the house and he reportedly tried to get her to go away with him.
When the young lady failed to comply, Nyack allegedly took a piece of clothesline and tied it around his neck and jumped from the balcony of the house to the ground.
The NEW TODAY understands that a young man of the area came to his assistance and cut off the rope.
Nyack was administered CPR and taken to the St. George's General Hospital where he was examined and admitted as a patient.
Police are said to be investigating the matter and could possible bring charges against the man.
