This newspaper was informed that Police Officers headed by a Corporal of Police attached to the St. David’s Police Station went out on enquiries to Pomme Rose on Sunday morning at around 8.15 after receiving a report of Matthew Bain, armed with a cutlass, causing mayhem in the community.

An official police bulletin said that upon arrival, the officers saw Bain, believed to be mentally ill in the public road armed with a cutlass in his hand.

“On seeing the officers, he began approaching them with the cutlass.  He was instructed to drop the cutlass but refused to do so.  Instead, he began chasing the officers with his arm raised with the cutlass.

“In the process, one of the officers fell to the ground. As a result of the imminent danger faced with, the fallen officer was forced to draw his firearm resulting in Bain being shot.

The police reported that Bain was taken to the St. George’s General Hospital by the Officers, but he later died.
