Police have laid a charge of rape on Cosnel Mc Burnie alias Bamboo of New Hampshire, St. George’s
Police Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department in St. George’s were called out last week Sunday evening to probe a report of rape in the North East area of St. George’s that was made to them by angry residents there.
The New Today Newspaper learnt that Mc Burnie, a 37-year old labourer unlawfully entered the dwelling home of an 84-year old bed-ridden woman, Clara Watts from the same area and sexually assaulted her.
A source told this newspaper the woman’s caretaker who came to feed her discovered Mc Burnie lying naked on the floor next to the victim who was also naked.
The woman was taken to the St. George’s General Hospital where it was determined, upon investigation, that she was sexually assaulted.
In addition to the charge of rape, Mc Burnie is also charged with housebreaking.
He appeared in court last week Thursday before Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill and was remanded in custody to the Richmond Hill prison until November 15.
The accused man made a request for bail but Magistrate Gill upheld an objection to this by the Prosecution team.
The State prosecutors argued hat Mc Burnie was living in close proximity to the sexually assaulted victim and should be kept as far as possible away from the aged lady.
