“I am feeling quite happy, it’s a good feeling to be conferred with such a prestigious award. I am really overwhelmed”.
Those were the words issued by Superintendent of Police, Anthony Joseph after an Investiture Ceremony held last Thursday by Governor-General, Sir Carlyle Glean to confer on him the Police Medal for excellent service in Crime Fighting.
Supt. Joseph was among three Grenadians who were recognized in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for 2011.
The others were businessman, Hugh Dolland of the newly opened Spice Basket who received the CBE award for Business and former Permanent Secretary, Beryl Isaac for Public Service.
Speaking to the NEW TODAY newspaper after the ceremony, Supt. Joseph praised God Almighty for giving him the gifts that are necessary for crime fighting.
He said: “ I must say thanks to Almighty God for giving me the health and strength that supernatural gift in the fight against crime and criminal activities, thus helping me to receive this prestigious award.
“Many thanks to the person or persons who saw it fit to recommend and nominate me for such an award. This is not only for me but all my co-workers throughout the Criminal Investigation Department and Criminal Record Office. They all played a very important role in one way or the other, thus resulting in this joyful moment for me.
I am really overwhelmed. But this is not the end. With my limited time remaining in the Police Force, I want to assure the Commissioner of Police and members of the R.G.P.F and the Grenadian public, that they can expect greater things from me in the months ahead.
“I will continue to work hard to ensure our crimes are properly handled, managed and solved. I will ensure that Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is a much safer and crime free country so that our tourists, visitors, investors and nationals can go about their daily routine without being harmed, molested or robbed.
“Of course, the police will always be seeking the assistance of the public in order to achieve such.
In the citation read at the ceremony, Supt Joseph was described as one with an extremely high rate in solving crimes.
The citation read: “Superintendent Joseph is one of the most senior officers in the Royal Grenada Police Force with thirty-four (34) years of unbroken service. He has spent the majority of his years in the investigation of serious crimes and Drug offences.
