Police have laid a charge of rape on Cosnel Mc Burnie alias Bamboo of New Hampshire, St. George’s

 Police Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department in St. George’s were called out last week Sunday evening to probe a report of rape in the North East area of St. George’s that was made to them by angry residents there.

Poultry Farmer Alister Stanisclaus and his employee, Andy John remain confined at the Richmond Hill Prison awaiting trial for a number of offenses including possession of a firearm and ammunition, robbery, and harbouring a criminal.

Grenada’s main cultural activity, Carnival continues to have a large following of visitors.

 Addressing a prize-giving ceremony at the Grenada National Stadium last week Monday to reward the top winners of Spicemas 2011, Tourism and Culture Minister, Peter David disclosed that over ten thousand persons visited Grenada to enjoy the carnival.

Marian resident Roger Thompson has lost the battle with one of the six criminal cases sent to the High Court for trial by Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill earlier this year.

 Thompson, a born-again Christian, was found guilty last week Wednesday by a nine-member jury for housebreaking, and robbery with violence.

 The jury that comprised six women and three men returned a unanimous guilty decision on both counts at High Court Number One presided over by Madam Justice, Clare Henry.

 Those were the words issued by Superintendent of Police, Anthony Joseph after an Investiture Ceremony held last Thursday by Governor-General, Sir Carlyle Glean to confer on him the Police Medal for excellent service in Crime Fighting.

If former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elvin Nimrod is to be believed then there was never an offer from Mainland China to pay-off the island’s loan debts to Taiwan as part of the arrangement to break ties and recognise Beijing as part of the One-China policy pursued by the Keith Mitchell government in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.

Three young men from Happy Hill, St. George’s have been jointly charged with three counts of dangerous harm, and robbery with violence following a chopping incident in the nearby village of Moliniere last week Tuesday.

Former Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Elvin Nimrod has admitted that his wife was paid $5000.00 after she was hired by the former New National Party (NNP) government to look after Grenada’s interest in the Taiwanese defaulting loan case in a New York court in 2007.

 In what some legal official on the island brand as a conflict of interest, Nimrod admitted that his American-born wife, Donzell Tucker-Nimrod did not charge any hefty legal fees for the legal work done on behalf of the Keith Mitchell-led NNP administration.

New evidence has surfaced in St. George's about an attempt that was made by the former New National Party (NNP) government of Prime Minister Keith Mitchell to get Mainland China to take care of millions of dollars in outstanding debts to Taiwan.

 Grenada moved with speed after the passage of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004 to break ties with Taiwan and recognize Mainland China in the face of a more lucrative offer of aid from Beijing.

A school from the sister island of Carriacou has won the Rotaract Smart Saver Annual Spelling Bee Competition.

 Ten-year old Roshaun Lendore, a student of L’Esterre Rosary School, came out on top in the final of the competition held last Saturday at the auditorium of the Grenada Boys Secondary School in Tanteen, St. George’s.

Police are investigating the delivery of four parcels containing illegal drugs that were meant for inmates at the Richmond Hill Prison.

 According to well-placed sources, the items included dried marijuana, as well as a packet of Bamboo cigarette paper, and two wrapped parcels with two cigarette lighters.

A campaign has been launched in Grenada to encourage men to take a leading role in curbing domestic violence.

 Men from all walks of life were brought together last week at a two-day training workshop geared at sensitizing them about the problem of domestic violence.

 The workshop, which was held under the theme, “Men As Champions For Change”, was sponsored by the United Nations Entity for Gender, Equality and the Empowerment of Women, Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police in collaboration with the Government of Grenada.

Reynold-BenjaminAttorney-at-law, Reynold Benjamin has been committed to stand trial at the high court on two counts of fraud.

 Chief Magistrate Tamara Gill committed Benjamin last week Friday following a prolonged preliminary inquiry at the St. George’s Number One Magistrate’s Court.

Former Grenada Mobilisation Minister under the 1979-84 Grenada Revolution, Selwyn Strachan has been denied an entry visa to the United States.

 Informed sources told THE NEW TODAY newspaper that Strachan had applied to U.S officials for a visa to enter the United States en route to Madrid, Spain to attend an international conference but was rejected by the Americans.
