Legal arguments in the extradition case of Crofton Hannibal are expected to commence in February in a court house in South Africa.
Hannibal who is facing a charge of attempted murder became a fugitive of justice after leaving the State without the consent of the court on February 23, 2010.
He was apprehended last month in Botswana, Southern Africa by Interpol.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Nelson told The New Today Newspaper Hannibal that he has already filed the extradition papers to the authorities in Botswana and legal arguments will be made on the application in the new year.
Nelson said as with all extradition matters within the Commonwealth of Nations, the authorities in the respective States will act on behalf of their fellow countries.
This newspaper learnt that Hannibal who is a draftsman by profession went to Southern Africa to take up a job there.
Hannibal is accused of firing off three bullets into the body of Grenadian-born Michael Antoine who resides in Canada with his license firearm in January 2008 during an argument over an architectural drawing.
It is alleged that Antoine who was dissatisfied with the work done by the draftsman was seeking to get back his money for the job.
The incident took place on Church Street, St. George's, within close proximity to the law office of Hannibal's wife, an attorney by profession.
After police arrested and charged Hannibal for the shooting incident, he was placed on bail in the sum of $15,000.00 with two sureties.
The suspect was indicted to stand trial in the May 2010 Criminal Assizes.
He failed to show up for trial on May 11, 2010 and the court was told for the first time that he had left the jurisdiction.
Since then his two suretors, Michael Hannibal and John Fletcher were required by high court judge, Justice Lyle St. Paul to pay the court $7,500.00 each for their failure to secure Hannibal's presence for the trial.
