Fellow citizens, Season Greetings.

You may be aware that I assumed full responsibility for the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) as of 8th October, 2011 upon the expiration of vacation leave of Former Commissioner of Police, Mr. James Clarkson OBE, QPM which commenced on 1st September, 2011.

I wish to express my gratitude to all corporate and other citizens for your kind words upon assumption of the Office of Commissioner of Police.  There has been a plethora of promises to assist the Police and I do look forward to such assistance.

As you are aware, the country will only be kept safe when we all join together in ensuring that law breakers and criminals are brought to the attention of law enforcement and dealt with expeditiously.  The aspect of Community Policing is no insignificant and abstract theory, but one that must be rooted in every village in the State.

There has been a vigorous attempt made to expand community policing to realise the dream of bringing same in sustained way throughout the State.

We are fundamentally aware that much more will be achieved when partnerships are forged and this is exactly the direction we are headed with the strengthening of Police Boys Club, the establishment of more Citizen Advisory Bodies, the strengthening of Farm Watch, among others.

The year 2012 should see a further enhancing of all aspect of Community Policing by the Royal Grenada Police Force.

Indeed, we are in the season of celebration, of sharing and being merry. It is my fervent wish that all will have a Christ filled Christmas, one without mishaps.  Therefore, it is important that we all take the necessary precautions to prevent anyone from derailing the season.

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with a key stakeholder in that of Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce where a number of matters were discussed.  I conveyed to the Chamber, that the Royal Grenada Police Force is unstinting in its support for business.

During the Christmas Season, a very deliberate attempt will be made by the Force to ensure that there is optimum coverage provided to the business sector.  The RGPF will ensure that there is continuous coverage so that shoppers can feel safe and business houses do not feel intimidated in any way.

It is not unusual at that time of year to find that as people busy themselves about the home, taking care of household chores that they can become complacent thus leaving opportunity for thieves to creep into their homes unaware.

I will therefore urge that you be more vigilant and careful.  Additionally, as you seek to light your Christmas trees to make your homes look more impressive, you should seek the assistance of a qualified electrician so that no untoward situation will arise.

To you parents and guardians, I advise you to speak to your children since during this season they are likely to be more exposed to negative influences which can leave indelible marks on them for life.

To our road users especially drivers, please if you are going to parties, you should not be drinking.  Designate a driver for all such occasions so that you can all have a happy Christmas and one without pain and grief.

To you the members of the Force, let me especially wish you a happy Christmas.  May we all look forward to 2012 and hope it will bring many benefits to the RGPF.  It is expected that this Christmas will again be one of hard work, since we are responsible for ensuring that the entire population is safe.

Let us continue to be professional in the quality of service we provide to the nation and in this period of festivities, we are called upon to be even more vigilant. Any opportunity being made available to persons in the society bent on committing criminal acts will undoubtedly be taken without any hesitation.

In recent times, Christmas has been relatively quiet and peaceful and we must ensure that it continues that way. During the Christmas season we will deploy sufficient officers to ensure that every community remains peaceful. I know that everyone will give of their best and that whenever, necessary sacrifices will be made.

Let me therefore thank every individual member of the Force for their hard work, dedication to duty and for service over the years.

Now that we are on the threshold of a new year, let us re-commit ourselves to serve and seek ways of improving the quality of service.  It is quintessential that we continue to work closely with the community.

As Commissioner, it behooves me to call on every citizen, on every person in the state of Grenada to come forward in 2012 and assist the RGPF in anyway necessary so that we can enjoy an even better society, one where crime will continue to be on the downward trend.

Let me therefore wish everyone the peace of God in 2012 and beyond.
