A police officer is nursing injuries to a wound he allegedly sustained at the hands of a St. Patrick’s resident believed to be mentally deranged.
A police source told The New Today Newspaper that the officer who is a Constable attached to the Sauteurs Police Station in St. Patrick’s, was among a party of officers who went out last week to investigate a stabbing incident at La Taste, St. Patrick.
The source who did not want to be identified said the party of police officers were responding to a report received that a resident of the area had been chopped on his leg with a knife by a suspected lunatic, Emon Alexis.
This newspaper learnt that while in the process of arresting the suspect, the Police Constable was stabbed on his arm with the knife by Alexis.
The injured officer was taken to the Sauteurs Medical Centre where he received six stitches for the injuries.
Only last month, an officer attached to the St. David’s Police Station was forced to fatally shoot another suspected lunatic of Pomme Rose, St. David’s.
It is alleged that the 57-year old Matthew Bain who died from the gunshot chased a group of police officers with a cutlass as they were attempting to apprehend him.
Commissioner of Police, Willan Thompson announced publicly that he had ordered an investigation into the circumstances relating to the St. David’s incident.
A check made by THE NEW TODAY with Head of Community Relations Department of RGPF, Superintendent Dunbar Belfon indicated that he was not in a position to say if the investigation that is being carried out by Head of the Eastern Division, Supt Reuben Maitland has been completed.
