A mother and her daughter have been arrested and charged by lawmen in connection with harbouring the notorious prisoner Jexie Anthony Gibbs who escaped custody last week Monday. Laslyn Panchoo and her 20-year old daughter Kayuna from Dunfermline have been accused of assisting Gibbs in seeking refuge at their house.
Police officers attached to the Drug Squad, Rapid Response Unit and the Special Services Unit who were conducting a manhunt for the escaped man swooped down at the home of the Panchoo’s last week Thursday where they were able to nab Gibbs.
The 29-year old who was serving a three-year sentence at Her Majesty’s Prison at Richmond Hill, St. George’s for dangerous harm evaded prison officers when he was taken to the General Hospital for treatment last week Monday. He is also awaiting trial for possession of ammunition.
A source told The New Today Newspaper that in the process of capturing Gibbs, nine and a half ounces of marijuana were also found in the house. Both mother and daughter were subsequently arrested and charged for the offences of possession of a controlled drug, and trafficking of a controlled drug.
They were taken to the Grenville Police Station in St. Andrew’s and while in police custody, the 40-year old Panchoo who is a sales clerk fell sick and had to be rushed to the Princess Alice Hospital at Mirabeau, St. Andrew’s where she was admitted as a patient. It is believed she suffered a stroke on her left side.
In addition to the charges of drug possession and trafficking, the 20-year old Panchoo who is an assistant teacher is charged with the offense of harboring a criminal. She appeared before the Grenville Magistrate’s Court last week Friday and was granted bail in the sum of $5,000.00 for each offense.
The suspect was asked to surrender all travel documents and to report to the Grenville Police Station every Monday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Panchoo is due to appear in Court on March 1.
