After being incarcerated for just over two years at Her Majesty’s Prison at Richmond Hill, St. George’s, a Munich man, Lindon Mason is now a free man. Mason was set free by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal on Monday after the Justices squashed the conviction and sentence of manslaughter at the high court.

Magistrate of the Eastern District Nevlyn John has turned down an application made by two of the defense lawyers to not proceed with the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the death of Peter Oscar Bartholomew last Friday. Five police officers are charged with manslaughter arising out of the death of the 39-year old Grenadian-born Canadian resident who was allegedly beaten at the St. David’s Police Station on December 26, 2011.

A police officer who is attached to the Port Police Station and his female companion are nursing injuries at the St. George’s General Hospital. The injuries arose from a domestic dispute between the couple that took a turn for the worst early Sunday Morning last.

The Australian Government has lived up to its promise of providing funding for the rebuilding of the Parliament Building. Grenada is being given a grant of US$5 million to assist with the rebuilding project for what is regarded to be an iconic building. The signing ceremony for the grant agreement for construction of the Parliament Building was done on Tuesday at the Ministerial Complex in St. George’s between Prime Minister Tillman Thomas and the Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Affairs, Richard Marles.

Prison officials in Grenada have confiscated a number of illegal items including cell phones and illegal drugs found on the compound. An authoritative source confided in The New Today Newspaper that the clean up which is part of the routine searches of inmates netted just over one hundred cellular phones and other items such as cellular phone batteries, sim cards, phone chargers, and an AM/FM radio, and a small quantity of marijuana.
