Westmorland did well at CXC

The Westmorland Private School has every reason to be proud of its academic performance for the 2010 to 2011 school year. The school, which has a pre-primary, primary and secondary department, topped the CXC (CSEC) exams that were written between the months of May and June.
The success at CXC follows the school’s success at the local Common Entrance Examination in which the school gained the first place through Maya Hadeed. The exam results that were released late last week by the Ministry of Education show that Westmorland School gained three places of the top 12 performances, while St. Joseph’s Convent (SJC), St. George’s gained seven places.
However, the overall success in the exams has come from Pavan Sean Ajay Mahbubani from Westmorland Secondary School. Mahbubani who is the son of the operators of Fortune Foods at Tempe, St. George’s was successful in all of the 14 subjects he wrote. The young man who is now holidaying in The Phillipines with his family obtained Grade One in all of the subjects.
The other Westmorland Students who are among the top 12 are Sean Andrew George Harford who obtained Grade one in all of the 12 subjects he wrote, and Edward Fakhre who wrote 11 subjects. Fakhre obtained ten Grade One’s, and one Grade Two.
The top performers for SJC, St. George’s are Stacey M. Charles with 11 passes, all of which are Grade One, and Trevique J. Xavier and Naphila Vonda John both of whom also obtained 11 passes, ten of which are Grade One, and the other being a Grade Two. The other SJC students are Kristie C. W. Francis, Melissa D. Roberts, Shanique T. K. Campbell, and Danielle E. Bartholomew all of whom obtained ten passes, and got ten Grade One’s.
The lone Grenada Boys Secondary School Student in the top 12 is Craig J. Clement who was successful with all of the 11 subjects he wrote, and was able to obtain ten Grade One, and one Grade Two. The other student in the top 12 comes from St. Mark’s Secondary- Trellonaze Charles with ten passes in which he obtained Grade One in each of them. A total of 3,632 candidates were registered to write the exams.
2,026 were students attending schools, and 1,606 were private candidates. There were 14,405 subject entries. Overall there were 1,586 Grade one, 3,468 Grade two, 4384 Grade three, 2,650 Grade four, 1,349 Grade five, 51 Grade six and 914 ungraded or absent. The pass rate in the examination is 69.97%. In 2010 the pass rate was 72.44%.
The largest entries were in English A (2,278), Mathematics (1,873), Social Studies (1,336) and Principles of Business (931). The lowest entries were in Mechanical Engineering Technology (5), Theatre Arts (11), Electronic Documentation Preparation and Management (67), and Religious Education (72).
The subjects with the highest percentage pass were Theatre Arts (100%), Physical Education and Sport (99.00%), Home Economics: Management (96.76%) and Food and Nutrition (96.00%). The subjects with the lowest percentage pass were Mechanical Engineering Technology (0%), Mathematics (31.26%), Visual Arts (44.21%) and Electrical and Electronic Technology (51.21%).
