Terror-Kid“The Last Days”, sung by “Terror Kid” got the nod of the judges in the 2011 GCC Lime Soca Monarch competition held Friday night at the National stadium at Queen’s Park. It was a popular choice as the entire ground started to vibrate when “Terror Kid” entered on-stage before thousands of fans already jumping and gyrating to his popular hit for the season.

The artiste whose real name is Shem Bernard commanded the crowd with his performance and presentation to defeat his 15 rivals which included six former soca monarchs. At the end of his presentation, singing in position No. 10, it was clear that the man to beat was the 23 year old resident of Chantimelle, St Patrick. Recreating scenes of himself mimicking Jesus being nailed to the cross in a video presentation, Terror Kid dressed in a white robe with a red cape, white socks, long white hair and beard and armed with a staff, made sure that it was the last day of reign for defending King, Kelvin “Otis” Celestine.

At the end, “Terror Kid” did not only take the coveted crown but the prized car valued at $100,000.00 and the People’s Choice Award challenge trophy. The 2011 King shed tears of joy after being crowned the Soca King by the new Carnival Queen, Cherrie Jones. Shortly after his crowning moment, Terror Kid told reporters that he has been trying to make it big in the competition for a while and now that he’s on the top, he will try to take Grenada’s music to a new level. “So much tears of joy to me”, said Terror Kid who wrote the winning hit for himself.

“The crown is not all, but the love from the people...”, said the artiste who likes to describe himself as a full-time entertainer by profession. The new soca monarch has already started to think about his preparations since he automatically qualifies to participate in the 2012 Trinidad and Tobago International Soca Monarch Competition.

The third spot was taken by Luni Spark & Electrufy “Everything Gone High”, 4th was Little Natty and Thunder known as Nyelon Williams & Dingaan Henry (361) with their hit, Double Trouble. The other artistes who participated in the competition were Nelson “Mr. Razer” Mapp, Hector “Mr. Legs” Thomas, Prince “Paw Paw” Cummings, Nekoyan Bain, Theron E. “Maxi Million” Francis, Godson “Soca Banton” Agard, Randy Isaac, Evlyn “Zingo” Alexander, Sheldon Douglas, Elimus “Inspector” Gilbert and Devon Flanders.
